RATAN TATA - WE HAVE FAILED YOU

I don't believe in taking right decisions.

I take decisions and make them right.

                                          -Ratan Tata

Ratan Tata
Ratan Tata, the most successful businessman of our nation is an epitome of hard work, dedication and a strive for brilliance. The man who always thought of his people and his country first, by keeping his business aside. For a short introduction, Ratan Tata is an Indian industrialist, philanthropist and a former chairman of Tata Sons. He is a great-grandson of  Jamestji Tata( founder of Tata group). He became the chairman of the Tata group and the holding company Tata Sons in 1991. Under his leadership, the revenues of Tata group grew more than 40 times. He is also a skilled pilot, Ratan Tata was the first Indian to pilot F-16 Falcon in 2007.

The legendary Business magnate, Ratan Tata has bagged countless awards in his lifetime including "Padma Bhushan" and "Padma Vibhushan" in 2000 and 2008 respectively. He was also honoured in Economic Education as the 26th Rober S. Hatfield Fellow( the most prestigious and highest award given by Cornell University). Not only this 66% of Tata Son's equity is held by Tata Trust and dividends flow directly to support the philanthropic work of the trusts.

But recently there is a lot more hatred towards a Tata product, Tanishq, which led to a major outrage in the country due to its controversial advertisement. Was this all worth it? How does this hatred can affect our country's economy? let's see.

TANISHQ CONTROVERSY

Nowadays where boycotting seems to be a fashion on Twitter, many people don't realise what the consequence of their single tweet will have on people. On 9th October Tanishq released an advertisement which went viral and created outrage on social media. It showed Hindu woman married into a Muslim family and ready for her baby shower. Her in-laws are shown to have gone to great lengths to make their daughter-in-law feel comfortable by performing Hindu rituals.

After the release of this advertisement, many people started tweeting with hashtag #BoycottTanishq, calling for a ban on the advertisement and even a boycott of the jewellery brand. They claimed that this ad. promotes "fake secularism" and "love jihad". At last, Tanishq had to withdraw their ad. and then issued their statement. Not even this, Ratan Tata name was also dragged in this controversy. In fact, famous Bollywood celebrity Kangana Ranaut, who has a big fan base, instead of spreading peace in the country, she too was found spreading hate among the people with her tweet.

Titan( which owns Tanishq Jewellery brand). Its stocks price fell by 2.58% from Rs. 1,257.55 to Rs. 1,224.35. It was a day after Tanishq faced an outrage on social media. Titan saw its collective wealth eroded by around Rs.2700 crores. A Tanishq showroom in Gujrat even received threats over this advertisement. Threats were also made at the store and the manager was forced to write an apology note for the ad. that had been withdrawn.

This communal hatred not only spreads hate in the country but also affects the business as well. I personally found that advertisement to be very loving and uniting. Many people came in support of Tanishq and encouraged it to fight back rather than taking that ad. down, but this would have created much more violence among the people. This unnecessary act by some people is actually a shame on humanity

TATA MOTORS

Ratan Tata's dearest project was "Tata Nano". He wanted to make a car cheap enough to be affordable for every Indian Family. But by the time Tata motors finished production, time was changed and selling a car close to 1 lakh rupees means bearing huge losses, but Ratan Tata said: "A Promise is a promise". He launched Tata nano in 2009 with a cost of 1 lakh rupees. This car was labelled as the world's cheapest car, but this cheapest word only came as the downfall of this car.

India has the highest number of road fatalities globally, at 1.5 lakh deaths a year and keeping safety in their cars Tata launched Nexon in 2018. Nexon became the first made-in India, sold-in-India car to achieve Global NCAP's coveted 5-star crash testing, followed by Tata Altroz which also got 5-star crash testing. But despite after making the safest cars, Tata Motors still has a market share of only 5.12% in Indian market, according to a report in 2019-20

The main problem is people's perception, many people associates Tata cars more with Nano and Indica and this is where the problem begins. People really need to change their perspective towards Tata cars, at least in terms of safety.

CONCLUSION

Ratan Tata has done so much for this country that it's almost impossible to express everything in a single post. We on one side, feels proud when he donates Rs.1,500 crore to PM Cares to fight against Covid-19 and on other side targets him over an advertisement. Ratan Tata has done a lot for this country and will continue doing it but what we have done in return for him, is a major concern. In this pandemic where it is very important to boost the country's economy, people are wasting their time on unnecessary issues. Boycotting Indian product is not going to improve country's financial growth. Moreover, it is only going to affect us, be it directly or indirectly. The motive of the post is that

  • People should maintain peace rather than spreading hatred.
  • One should change their perspective towards Indian products, as this will only help to improve in our country's economy

We have failed to know the worth of India's true gem "Ratan Tata". In these tough times, people like Ratan Tata are much more needed for the betterment of our country.
